Recently we volunteered at an event organized by Step Up Women’s Network. A group of us put together hundreds of goodie bags for women battling cancer. We did this with our good friend Jennifer of Handful Inc, a sports bra company that makes a product perfect for women who have had any breast reconstruction surgery due to cancer. It was so inspiring to be among like minded people who were there to support other women in need. So, thank you Step Up for putting this event on.

Bambini is participating in the 5th annual MommyFest! During this interactive online event they will give away a $50 Bambini gift certificate to a very lucky winner. Join other moms online to chat, win prizes, find new friends and share great mommy stories. There are podcasts and contests galore!
Since I am participating in MommyFest 2008, I need to re-introduce myself. My name is Claire and I am a mommy of 2 (ages 13 and almost 8), a wife, co-owner of Bambini Boutique and a part-time student. Bambini started as a children’s clothing boutique more than 24 years ago in Lake Oswego, Oregon. My “Mommy” and I bought it 6 years ago. We launched the website, www.bambiniboutique.com, a couple of years ago, and last year launched a beautiful new re-designed site with the help of the multi-talented Maddie of Better In Pink. In what I call my “Past Life” I was a professional dancer for many years. Now, I occasionally teach a kid’s dance class which is a blast! As if life weren’t busy enough, I am back at school studying Public Relations and communications. I love living in Oregon with my family, our 2 dogs, 2 cats, backyard chickens, cockatiel and with all of our friends and family close by. Life is full and chaotic, fanciful and fragile and I love every minute of it!

To celebrate MommyFest 2008 we will be giving away a very special book called Held in the Arms of Love by Bev Hawley. This book guides new parents in writing letters to their baby (to be opened when baby is an adult) using several questions, beautiful photography and special messages.
To enter, click on “Enter Contest” below, fill out the form making sure to include your email, answer this question in the comments and questions section: “How have you changed since your child’s arrival?” At the end of MommyFest, we will choose a winner and notify you by email. Good luck and have fun!

Organized Families is having a What’s In Your Purse contest for moms.
What do you keep in your purse? Tell the folks at Organized Families and you might win a hand crafted bag by Designer Pamela Robinson using a variety of different fabrics. She also creates custom designs! Need a bag to carry your planning tools and your ballet slippers? Let her know. Enter Contest

What’s in my purse? Hmm …My Blackberry, since I’m a working Mommy who does most of her work on the go, lipgloss (which I never seem to have time to use), mints, keys, overstuffed wallet (I don’t even know what’s in there!), some little plastic animal of my daughter’s, prescription lotion (she has dry skin), business cards and let’s see…my daughter’s socks…I wonder why?

If you’re like me, not very artistically adept (ok, I was a professional dancer, but the artistic endowment ended at my wrists) and you have a hard time making that perfect package with the nice clean folds, even seams and no lumps…then you’ll love this new sticky wrapping paper Hallmark has come out with. They have some great prints and I love not having to use my chin to hold the paper in place while reaching for the tape!

Why Being A Mother Is A Miracle To Me….by Jennifer
My quest for motherhood was a long and difficult journey. My first marriage eroded after my husband refused to have children with me. I adored my husband and loved him deeply, but he wanted travel and dinner parties; I wanted a sense of home. I left him in order to one day fulfill my natural yearning for motherhood, but leaving him came with a large price tag of grief and sorrow, shadows of which I still feel today.
Five years and a few boyfriends later, I found myself still single…and now finally pregnant. The child I had been longing for, a son I would ultimately name Jack, arrived in a rather complicated package. His father chose not to participate in Jack’s life, leaving us to sort out our destinies on our own. And his father also left behind another legacy; Jack was born with a significant heart defect requiring 3 open heart surgeries before the age of 3…a condition inherited from his father.
As I roll into Mother’s Day 2008, I must admit that I am a bit ragged, overweight, tired, and searching for the proverbial sense of balance. No one tells you how hard motherhood will be and nothing can truly prepare you. But, when I reflect on the journey, as difficult as it has been, I come to believe and trust that there is a greater sense of purpose at work here. After sailing through two heart surgeries, Jack is a healthy, happy and precocious toddler who reminds me every day that miracles do happen and that our dreams can be achieved. Sometimes the package isn’t what we thought it would be and sometimes it’s even better. :-)

It’s not just for teenagers anymore. My whole extended family and friends are on there and I’m having so much fun being able to quickly communicate with everyone that normally I wouldn’t have time to chat with. Why is it different than email or texting? I don’t know. I think having everyone’s face in front of me on my profile and all these options of sending them a song, a link or an egg that hatches into an elephant. I share photo albums, family videos, hilarious You Tube clips and movie trailers. It’s fun and easy. Not to mention I enjoy throwing a sheep at my niece and high fiving my best friend! Don’t know what I’m talking about? Check this out:

Since I’m a Mother and my business partner is my Mother and Mother’s Day is coming up, we thought we would honor Mothers with a CONTEST! It’s simple to enter: Click on Enter the Contest below, fill out All your information (we need to be able to get in contact of you if you win), write a brief description of why being a Mother is a miracle to you and you’re done!
We will post some of the entries as we receive them; we won’t use full names.
On May, 11 we will choose a winner based on a random drawing.
Oh yeah, the prize…$50 gift certificate to www.bambiniboutique.com and a Baby Silk sampler package worth $65!

And they are beautiful! We are so excited that Petunia has decided to make slings…we love their prints and since slings are so widely used these days (I got strange looks when I used a sling 13 years ago with my son and even 7 years ago with my daughter!) it is a perfect match.
Take a look at the newest prints for the clutches. They are so chic and yet mommy friendly.

We have just added a fabulous new Skin Care Line for Babies! It’s called Baby Silk and it was created by a group of Mom M.D.’s, what could get better. We wanted to start sharing their expertise with you on our blog…so here’s the first of our “Who Knew?” series thanks to MD Moms.
Baby Silk formulas always have been and always will be
100% phthalate-free!
With all the talk of late about phthalates in baby products, parents have understandably been left concerned and confused.
WHO KNEW?
DID YOU KNOW THAT ALL OF BABY SILK FORMULAS ARE 100% PHTHALATE-FREE??
Fiction:
All baby products contain Phthalates.
Fact:
Phthalates are a large family of compounds with very different chemical profiles. The only 2 phthalates used in the cosmetic industry are DEP: a substance used to prolong fragrance, and DBP: a substance used to protect nail varnish from chipping.
Not all fragrances in all baby products have phthalates.
MD Moms is committed to providing the safest and most effective products, and is proud to provide formulas that are phthalate-free.
